Witnessing the constant flux of city life, Matthew takes mental snapshots of what he sees: Clouds slipping across a bruised darkening sky; smoke emptying from chimneys into a frozen grey morning; city dwellers making their trajectory over patched urban landscapes. He reconfigures these experiences to create unexpected relationships between colours, shapes and forms. As well as paint, he uses a range of materials to allude to this re-aligned world which includes photographs, furniture and pin-board.
