Without light there can be no colour. Everything is defined by colour and into
her paintings Wiebke pours her passion for colour and light. This is a
combination of a childhood in Northern Germany and the impact of
Mediterranean light during her studies in Barcelona. Wiebke moved to London
in 1998 and graduated from Wimbledon School of Art with the MA in 2000.
In 2002 a travel to Morocco and some time spent in the Sahara drew her
attention to texture and environment. She started using sand and pigments in
her paintings. The aspect of sound and music plays a significant role in her life,
she always paints with music and being artist in residence during a festival in
Germany in 2004 and again 2008 and a passion for opera lead to vibrant “Stage
A year of a lot of changes introduced the two more series, the “Personal
Paintings” and the “Liquid Paintings”. All series run along side each other and
deal with the space around us and the relationship between humans and nature.
Wiebke is interested in the natural, perhaps primitive state of things and in
representing it through the organic medium of painting and its endless possibilities.
