Millinery Classes at the Chocolate Factory

These weekend classes take place on the first weekend of the month. If you have a group of friends or colleaugues who would like to book another weekend then just llet me know and we can arrange it. I can also teach individuals and small groups on a weekly basis if you would like to go further with your knowledge and skills. There is a lot you can learn once you have the bug!
Millinery Classes
Tutor - Andrew McDonald, MA (Royal College of Art)
Millinery is a vast and exciting area of creativity spanning from the everyday wearable hat to the wild and extravagant showpiece. In these courses I aim to help you learn some of the techniques of millinery and to create original one-off pieces of your own.
I studied at the Royal College of Art and went on to make hats for couture and ready-to-wear shows in London and Paris. I have also taught at City and Islington College and elsewhere.
The courses will be taught in a small group with individual tuition and a friendly atmosphere, in a working artist’s studio. Currently I have workshops running on:
February Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th (10.30am – 4.30pm)
March Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th (10.30am – 4.30pm)
April Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th (10.30am – 4.30pm)
May Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd (10.30am – 4.30pm)
Weekend Workshops: You will be given an introduction to making hats and headwear accessories. You will learn some of the techniques of blocking in straw and felt, wiring and trimming with feathers and fabrics. The weekend course will be based around the making of a hat of your own design.
The cost of the workshop course is £95 plus the cost of materials. I will have supplies of straws and felts as well as other basic materials for you to purchase. You are also welcome to bring any other materials along.
