Warped Light

van_Essen1-2For Open Studios Tamsin van Essen in G4 will be showing her series of slip-cast bone china lighting ‘Warped Light’. The design is based on traditional Chinese paper lanterns. “I wanted to recreate the concertina effect of these lanterns using bone china, encouraging random distortion during firing to give the impression of malleability and movement. The pieces start off symmetrical but subsequently warp in a unique way, each one caught at a different point of collapse: no two lights are the same.”
